BIRDING Tour IN NORTHEASTERN MEXICO

Birding Tour in MEXICO! First time offered and at the request of birders near and far who wanted a special birding tour. Your professional birding guides will be very familiar with Northeastern Mexico and all that it has to offer. Each group of 10-12 birders will have their own experienced guide. Early morning field trippers will be provided with snacks and water to tide them through plus other meals and special entertainment will be included. Even non-birders may want to tag along.

DAY 1 - Head south toward Cd. Victoria stopping en route at a small lodge on the Corona River to observe the birds in this area. Continue to Gomez Farias arriving there in the mid-afternoon. Your lead guide will prepare you for the sights you will be visiting and the birds you may sight in the next few days. At the end of each day, we will tally our sightings for the day. The grounds of this hotel and the village itself is a birder’s paradise. Explore to your heart’s content. Overnight at Hotel Cumbres Inn and Suites in Gomez Farias.

DAY 2 - It’s up, up and away to Alta Cima located within the El Cielo preserve. The countryside is beautiful - if you were a bird it would be nice to live in the area. You have all day to bird in this lush area. Those who wish to go to the top of El Cielo would need to pay an extra fee for the all day excursion. After an included simple lunch prepared at Alta Cima, continue scouting the area around Gomez Farias with more and more sightings. Tonight back at our hotel we can compare our lists. Overnight at the Hotel Cumbres Inns and Suites in Gomez Farias. L L

DAY 3 - It is just a few hours from Gomez Farias to Cd. Valles, our next destination where we spend two nights as we scout the area. Our hotel is out from town located in a tropical paradise with a warm thermal pool to soak in after your day in the field. The area around the hotel will afford a great opportunity for birders. Bat falcons will hunt at dusk. Overnight at the Hotel Taninul near Cd. Valles.

DAY 4 - Our birding today takes us to Los Pozos near the village of Xixitla. You will travel through a cloud forest as our charter coach winds its way up to Sir Edward James’ gardens. Sir Edward was called the “mad Englishman” and fancied himself an architect building whimsical concrete stairways to nowhere that rise up through the lush vegetation. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the banks of a clear, cool river before returning to Cd.Valles. Overnight at Hotel Taninul near Cd. Valles. PL

DAY 5 - Reluctantly leave Hotel Taninul for Paraiso, located on the banks of the San Rafael de Carrizal River. Just a short distance downstream is the Gulf of Mexico. You may want to do your bird sightings as you boat down the river or stroll along the banks or maybe you will want to do both. We won’t be leaving this Paradise until tomorrow after lunch time so you will have plenty of time to enjoy. Overnight at Paraiso near Barra del Tordo. D D

DAY 6 - Another half day for birding before we start for home and the Rio Grande Valley. Around lunch time, we will hook ‘em up and head ‘em out. I hope you added lots of birds to you life list. We should arrive back at the border around 8:00pm. B, L
