Relax on a four day getaway to a colonial gem of a town. Bustamante, founded in 1686, is a quaint town who’s ambiance captures the essence of yesteryear. Note the large entryways with doors of heavy mesquite wood, windows with decorative wrought iron bars dating back to colonial times. Don’t expect an upscale hotel with a gourmet restaurant. Do expect typical village life and a friendliness found in very few places today.
DAY 1 - Leave the Rio Grande Valley crossing at Roma. Our first visit is to the delightful village of Vallecillo, where houses are made out of solid rock. Then travel via Sabinas Hidalgo and Villaldama for a panoramic view of the city and surrounding countryside. Arrive into Bustamante in the early afternoon in time to take a stroll down the paseo (pathway) called El Callejon del Beso (kissing alley). Maybe it is time to steal a kiss from your partner?! Overnight in Bustamante.
DAY 2 - Visit a rustic mescal factory and an old-fashioned bakery where the Pan de Bustamante is still baked in adobe ovens. Visit a pecan candy factory, featuring the famous Glorias. Enjoy catered baked chicken lunch at Bustamante Canyon.. Cost of the meal is $5.00. Bring swim wear if you wish to enjoy the springs - changing rooms and showers are available. Overnight in Bustamante.
DAY 3 - Be the first to visit the Caverns of Bustamante, said to be the most beautiful and largest in Mexico’s northern region. Tonight, take part in a Farewell to Bustamante Show. Overnight in Bustamante.
DAY 4 - Check out of our hotel before driving out to visit a hacienda that raises fighting bulls. Return to our host hotel for lunch before departing to the Rio Grande Valley.
