And don’t forget all the fantastic stops in between...Centrally located San Luis Potosi, Colonial Guadalajara - famous for tequila and Mariachis plus Wild West Durango, and Torreon. Lie back and enjoy a relaxing, fun time featuring some of the most popular destinations in Mexico.
DAY 1 - Cross into Mexico on your way to Montemorles and Matehuala for your first night in Mexico. Admire the rugged beauty of the Santa Rosa Canyon. Overnight at the Midway Las Palmas Inn in Matehuala.
DAY 2 - Our destination today is San Luis Potosi, considered the east/west; north/south cross roads of Mexico. City tour of San Luis Potosi including the Teatro de la Paz, the Cathedral and the State Capitol Building. You will have some free time on your own to explore the central downtown area. Be sure you buy some candies - produced in San Luis Potosi. Tonight, enjoy a presentation by the Estudiantina Guadalupana. Overnight at the Hotel Panorama in San Luis Potosi.
DAY 3 - After an included breakfast, we are off to Guadalajara. Stop in San Juan de Los Lagos, at the second most visited shrine in Mexico dedicated to the Virgin of San Juan. Then it is on to Colonial Guadalajara where our hotel is right in the center of town. Tonight, visit nearby Tlaquepaque and listen to the mariachi music at the central covered square, the Parian. Overnight at the Hotel Fenix in Guadalajara. BB
DAY 4 - Enjoy a brisk walking tour in the early morning before we explore nearby Lake Chapala and Ajijic. Many Americans and Canadians have retired to this area as the climate is so constant - Guadalajara is on the same latitude as Hawaii. Overnight at the Hotel Fenix in Guadalajara. BB
DAY 5 - Today is the day!! We’re off to Puerto Vallarta. Our drive takes us through the tequila growing area where the blue green tequila agave plants cover the sloping hill sides. Stop in Tequila for a sample of this national drink before we continue. Arrive in Puerto Vallarta shortly after lunch time. Spend the next four nights in our all inclusive beach front hotel. Overnight at the Holiday Inn in Puerto Vallarta. BB, D
DAY 6, 7, 8, 9 - You will have plenty of time to explore the downtown area with its cobble stoned streets and quaint shops. Your guide will show you Gringo Gulch where so many American movie stars have their second homes. Also drive out to Mismaloya Bay where the Night of the Iquana was filmed. Fishermen may even want to charter a boat and try their luck. Optional bay cruises are also available. Daily, you will enjoy an included breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnights at the Holiday Inn in Puerto Vallarta. 4B, 4L, 4D
DAY 10 - After breakfast, it is time to leave this paradise and head for Mazatlan. We can detour by the coast and visit an area where many Canadians retire. Then on to Mazatlan where we spend another two nights in a beach front hotel. Overnight at the Luna Palace in Mazatlan. BB
DAY 11 - Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before we begin our city tour of Mazatlan visiting the Aquarium, the Golden Zone and Ice Box Hill. Team up with friends to enjoy a parrillada - charcoal broiled seafood of all descriptions. Then spend your last afternoon enjoying the beach as tomorrow we head inland. Overnight at the Luna Palace in Mazatlan. AB
DAY 12 - We’re on our way to Durango, a wild, wild west kind of town claiming fame for many movie sets made famous by John Wayne, James Coburn , Humphey Bogart and Walter Huston. Famous movies with film settings in Durango are the 1948 The Treasure of the Sierra Madres and the 1973, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Visit some of these settings as we explore the town. Overnight at the Best Western Playa Viscaya in Durango. AB
DAY 13 - Finish any sightseeing not completed yesterday. Then hook em up and head em out to Torreon, a cotton growing region. Visit the Cristo de Las Noas, the third largest statue of Christ in Latin America and the nearby religious buildings that duplicate the village of Bethlehem. Treat yourself to ice cream, famous in this area. Overnight at the Hampton Inn in Torreon. CB
DAY 14 - Today we travel home through the desert to Saltillo, once the capital of Texas. You will have a chance to purchase pan de pulque and delicious candies from Parras before continuing through Monterrey and on to the Rio Grande Valley. We should arrive at the border by 6:30pm. AB
