Tour to San Luis Potosi - VALLES... The Mad Englishman’s Gardens

San Luis Potosi Tour! This tour is fantastic…we added a day to give you more time to enjoy this great trip. You will visit Santa Maria del Rio, the little village where beautiful rebozos ( the Mexican stoles) are hand-loomed. After two nights in a centrally located San Luis Potosi hotel, spend two nights in a tropical paradise near Cd. Valles. Drive through the Sierra Gorda for incomparable scenic vistas. Diverse scenery from desert to high plains; lush tropical foliage to dry barren stretches; flat land to mountains; cattle ranches to grain fields; rain forests to dry, irrigated lands. A real kaleidoscope of nature with history and culture an added plus. Come join in for a relaxing and educational tour.

DAY 1 - Leave the Rio Grande Valley for our drive to San Luis Potosi on the high plains where we spend the next two nights. Your centrally located hotel in San Luis has several nearby restaurants from the elegant to the ordinary. Overnight at the Hotel Panorama in San Luis Potosi.

DAY 2 - Today’s tour will include not only the high points of San Luis Potosi but will also include a visit to Santa Maria del Rio where you will visit the work shop of artisans who make the finest of hand-loomed rebozos - with at least eighteen inches of hand tied fringe on each end The small village church and square are ringed by shops and bakeries. Tonight, back in San Luis Potosi, be delighted with the special entertainment with a musical group that will steal your heart away. Overnight at the Hotel Panorama in San Luis Potosi. B

DAY 3 - After your included breakfast, your drive will take you through the Sierra Gorda to Xixitla, where you visit a Huastecan outdoor market. Perhaps you may see Totonacan Indian women wearing brightly colored headpieces. Visit the nearby gardens of Sir Edward James, the "mad Englishman", who fancied himself an architect. Our hotel has a natural sulphur spring feeding a large swimming pool. Some people refer to these waters as “The Fountain of Youth” since the warm waters make those tired joints feel young again. Overnight at Hotel Taninul in Cd. Valles. B, Picnic Lunch

DAY 4 - Today we will explore the nearby city of Valles as well as visiting the Museum on the grounds of the hotel. You will have all afternoon to enjoy the thermal pool and to explore the grounds. Tonight, enjoy a grilled dinner as you are serenaded by music from this area. Overnight at Hotel Taninul in Cd. Valles. B, D

DAY 5 - Nobody ever wants to leave this tropical paradise but today we must start home. Travel past sugarcane fields and mango and orange orchards stopping at a primitive sugar mill. On to Cd. Victoria, state capital of Tamaulipas, for our lunch break. Catch fleeting glimpses of man made Lake Guerrero crossing back into the Rio Grande Valley around 6:30p.m. B
