National Cherry Blossom Festival
The National Cherry Blossom Festival annually commemorates the 1912 gift to the city of Washington of 3,000 cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo to enhance the growing friendship between the United States and Japan and celebrate the continued close relationship between our two peoples.

The 2008 festival marks the 96th celebration of the Cherry Blossom Festival. The two-week festival features concerts, exhibits, a street festival and parade, the Smithsonian Kite Festival, and other events at various DC locations. Catch the Fireworks Celebration on April 7 at 8:30PM at the Southwest Waterfront, as well as the Sakura Maturi Street Festival and Parade on April 14, which showcases Japanese pop culture.
