Since 1634 and now only every ten years, the tiny, picturesque Bavarian Village of Oberammergau performs The Passion Play. This tragic and deeply moving chronicle depicts the passion of Christ at the time of the Crucifixion. The cast is made up exclusively of the local villagers and equals any professional production in both sheer spectacle and emotion. This is an extraordinary community effort. Join us on this journey that will exceed every expectation.

DAY 1 - DEPART USA
Overnight flight to Vienna. Meals en route.

DAY 2 - ARRIVE VIENNA
Welcome to Vienna - the capital of Austria. After check in there is time to relax and unwind before meeting you Tour Director and fellow traveling companions for a Welcome Drink and to learn more about your tour. Overnight in Vienna.

DAY 3 - VIENNA SIGHTSEEING & AT LEISURE
Our morning sightseeing tour with a local guide features the monuments and palaces of this musical city. The Imperial Boulevards lead us to the Opera House. the Hofburg Palace, the Parliament and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Our walking tour takes us into the oldest parts of the city near ‘Am Hof’. Later, free time to perhaps indulge in some Sachertorte and cream in a tempting pastry shop. Or why not take an excursion to Maria Theresa von Habsburg’s favorite palace, the Schonbrunn, with its delightful fountains and gardens?. This evening we enjoy a local Highlights Dinner with wine together in a local restaurant. Overnight in Vienna. BB, HD

DAY 4 - VIENNA WOODS EXCURSION
Our local expert takes us on a scenic drive into the nearby Vienna Woods where we stop to see Mayerling and the hunting lodge where Crown Prince Rudolf and his young mistress died in 1898. We also stop at Heiligenkreuz to visit the Abbey of Holy Cross. Then there’s time at leisure, perhaps to window-shop in Kamtnerstrasse or visit a museum. Overnight in Vienna. BB

DAY 5 - VIENNA - SALZKAMMERGUT - SALZBURG
We drive along the Valley of the River Danube past Melk where we see Austria’s greatest baroque monastery. From here we continue along the Danube Valley to the area known as the Salzkammergut. At Gmuden, with its beautiful Lake Chateau, we enjoy a tranquil and scenic drive along the shores of the Traunsee and Altersee, the largest lake in the Austrian Alps to the Mondsee. We stop in the village to see the church where the marriage of Captain Von Trapp and Maria was filmed for the Sound of Music. Finally we reach the sugar-icing city of Salzburg. Overnight in Salzburg. DAY 6 - SALZBURG - BERCHTESGADEN - INNSBRUCK - OBERAMMERGAU
We drive north from Innsbruck to Bavarian Germany and the beautiful region of Oberammergau where we have dinner in our hotel tonight. Overnight in Oberammergau. BB, D

DAY 7 - PASSION PLAY PERFORMANCE
After breakfast there is time at leisure followed by lunch at a local restaurant. The Passion Play begins at 2:30pm and runs until 5pm when there is time for a dinner break. The play resumes at 8pm and finishes at 10:30pm when you are transferred back to your hotel accommodation. Overnight in Oberammergau. BB, L, D

DAY 8 - OBERAMMERGAU - NEUSCHWANSTEIN - MUNICH
After breakfast we rejoin our coach and continue on to visit Neuschwanstein Castle. Overnight in Munich. BB

DAY 9 - MUNICH ORIENTATION & AT LEISURE
After breakfast we head out on our morning orientation tour which will shows us the Hofbrauhaus, the Marienplatz with its Glockenspiel, and the majestic Opera House. Time at leisure, then this evening we enjoy a Farewell Dinner together with our Tour Director and fellow travelers. Overnight in Munich. BB, FD

DAY 10 - MUNICH - USA
Our “once in a lifetime experience” has come to an end. Bid farewell to our Tour Director and friends. Meals en route.
