Galveston Island – Festival of Lights

Come escape & explore “Where the Texas Coast Begins”. Galveston is one of the most historic cities in Texas – Galveston had the first gas lights, the first international bank, the first title company, the first cotton press, the first newspaper, the first medical school and on and on – all firsts for the state of Texas. In the 1800’s, Galveston was the second largest immigration port in the United States and was dubbed the “Ellis Island of the Southwest”.

DAY 1 – Leave the Rio Grande Valley for the beautiful coastal island of Galveston. Arrival in Galveston will be approximately 4:00pm just in time for check in at our hotel right on the seawall with views of the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. Overnight at the Commodore Hotel in Galveston.

DAY 2 – Great orientation tour to Galveston with a local step-on guide. Includes a tour of the famous Moody Mansion. Lunch is on your own but we suggest Shrimp-n-Stuff recommended by our guide. After lunch tour the Ocean Star – an actual offshore drilling rig now a museum. Time to see a documentary on the Great Storm before you have free time for strolling on the Strand with it’s many specialty shops. Tonight enjoy a Christmas Buffet Dinner at Moody Gardens. Be dazzled by their Festival of Lights. Overnight at the Commodore Hotel in Galveston. B, D

DAY 3 – After breakfast, we are on our way to visit the King Tut Exhibit at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts.  This may be the last time this exhibit will be show in the United States.  You will not want to miss it.  Lunch is on your own in their cafe in the Museum.  Then it’s time to board our coach as our driver brings us safely back home with great memories of a fun trip to this most historic city.
