Marian Shrines

A deeply moving experience focusing on the two most famous Marian Shrines. Additional days can be added, OR the trip can be shortened to 10 days which would reduce the cost.

DAY 1 – USA to Lisbon, Portugal
Depart on our overnight flight for Portugal. Meals in flight.

DAY 2 – Arrive Lisbon
Depending on air schedule, panoramic tour of Lisbon before checking in to our hotel. D

DAY 3 – Lisbon – Fatima
En route to Fatima, visit Bathala and Santarem, a medieval city with narrow, winding streets and charming plazas. Continue to Fatima where the Virgin Mary appeared six times to three novices between May 13 to October 13, 1917. Visit the Basilica; the Little Chapel of the Apparitions; the Hamlet of Aljustrel, and Valinhos, the site of Our Lady’s appearance after the children’s return from prison. Join in an evening candlelight procession. B, D

DAY 4 – 5 – Fatima to Santiago de Compostela
Depart Fatima traveling northward and passing by Coimbra, where Lucia, the Fatima visionary was a cloistered nun. Pause in Braga to visit the Bom Jesus Church. On to Santiago de Compostela, with relics of St. James who is credited with the conversion of Spain before he returned to the Holy Land. Enjoy the Old City. Visit the Cathedral of Santiago and the Crypt where the relics of St. James are preserved. Free afternoon to explore this wonderful city on your own or to spend more time in the Cathedral. DAY 6 – Santiago de Compostela – Burgos
Travel along the ancient “Way of St. James” to Burgos, the historic capital of Old Castile. Visit the magnificent Cathedral. Be sure to sample the local specialties, Queso de Burgos and Morcilla de Burgos, a Pigs Blood Sausage mixed with onion, herbs and rice. B, D

DAY 7 – 8 – Burgos – Lourdes
After breakfast, continue to Lourdes, one of the world’s most famous places for pilgrims. En route, stop at Loyola, the birthplace of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits. After arriving in Lourdes, join in this evening’s memorable rosary and candlelight procession. I n 1858, Our Lady appeared to the 14 year old Bernadette near the Grotto of Massabielle. Trace the life of Bernadette. Your afternoonw ill be free to pray for the sick, drink water from the miraculous spring, pray at the grotto or submerge yourself in the healing baths. B, D daily.

DAY 9 – Lourdes to Zaragoza – Cross the Pyranees today as we travel to Zaragoza, founded before the birth of Christ and gaining fame years later when visited by the Virgin Mary. Explore on your own before dinner. B, D

DAY 10 – Zaragoza to Barcelona – A local guide will help us get acquainted with Zaragoza’s heritage as we visit the main square and the Basilica de Nuestra Senora del Pilar. After some free time for lunch on your own, continue to the bustling city of Barcelona. Enjoy dinner together at our hotel. B, D

DAY 11 – Barcelona – Included city tour. Visit Antonio Gaudi’s unfinished masterpiece La Sagrada Familia. This afternoon, shop, rest, pack and be ready to say farewell remembering so many beautiful experiences we have shared together. B, D

DAY 12 – Barcelona to the United States – B and Meals en route.
