Queretaro – This city, even though considered an industrial mecca, still maintains it’s colonial charm. The city is located in the Bajia of Mexico and played a major role in the 1810 War for independence. Surrounding Queretaro has many charming villages each one unique in their production of native crafts or vineyards. You will be enchanted by all that the city and the state of Queretaro offers. Day 1 – Our charter bus with our special professional drivers takes us across the border through Monterrey and Saltillo and continues to Queretaro arriving there in the late afternoon. Our hotel is very centrally located – just perfect for those of you who like to explore or take early morning walks. Overnight at the Hotel Domun in Queretaro, Centro Historico
Day 2 – Enjoy your included breakfast before departing for Tequisquiapan and their famous Sunday market, loaded with local crafts as well as those from other parts of Mexico. Tequis, as it is often referred to by locals, is a small colonial town whose streets remain cobblestoned the main church. Our Lady of Assumption, is painted a most interested shade of pink. After shopping to your hearts content, we will visit a local winery where we enjoy wine and cheese produced in Queretaro. Day 3 – After your included breakfast, relax as our driver takes us over to Pena de Bernal, the third largest monolith in the world. Breath taking views award those who can climb to the look out point. At the base, browse the food booths or if you prefer you could lunch indoors at one of the many restaurants available. After your lunch break, return to Queretaro for some well deserved free time to just relax, shop or explore. Overnight at the Hotel Domun, Centro Historico in Queretaro. B
Day 4 – Made famous the world over are the charming Maria dolls made by the women of Amealco de Bonfil. These precious little dolls – dressed in typical costume-wear straw hats and long braids interwoven with colorful ribbons – a great memento of your trip in this fascinating country. Day 5 – Alas it is time to turn toward home. After breakfast we are on our way traveling first to Cerro de Cubilete in the state of Guanajuato. The top of the mountain is adorned with a beautiful statue of Christ the King. A symbolic crown of thorns encircles the ceiling of the nearby chapel. From this high vantage point, one can see into four neighboring states. We continue to San Luis Potosi for our last night in Mexico. Be sure you have plenty of film for after dinner tonight, Jo has planned special entertainment with the Estudiantina Guadalupana – a very talented musical group of all ages who are invited to perform all over the world. These young men will steal your heart away. Overnight at Hotel Real Plaza in San Luis Potosi. B
Day 6 – Our vistas change dramatically today from rolling country side, glorious mountains, canyons and valleys to the flat land we lovingly call our Valley home. Arrival back to the border will probably be around 8:00pm B, L
